Michael Fierman

Managing Partner and Co-CEO

Michael is a Managing Partner and Co-CEO of Angel Oak Companies, a firm focused on credit opportunities within asset management, capital markets and mortgage lending. In this role, Michael provides strategic direction and leadership to Angel Oak’s various businesses, with a focus primarily on mortgage lending and asset management.

Prior to Angel Oak, Michael was a co-founder at SouthStar Funding, a national wholesale mortgage lender specializing in non-agency mortgage products which funded as much as $6.5 billion annually in non-agency mortgages. Michael’s direct responsibilities included oversight of the sales, operations and credit risk departments.

Michael holds a B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of Georgia.

Sreeni Prabhu

Managing Partner and Co-CEO
Chief Investment Officer

Sreeni is a Managing Partner, co-founder and Chief Investment Officer at Angel Oak Capital and is responsible for the overall investment strategy of the firm.

Prior to Angel Oak, Sreeni was the Chief Investment Officer of the investment portfolio at Washington Mutual Bank in Seattle and managed a $25 billion portfolio. He was also part of the macro asset strategy team at the bank. Sreeni worked for six years at SunTrust Bank in Atlanta, where he was responsible for investment strategies and served as Head Portfolio Manager for the $3 billion commercial mortgage backed securities portfolio. He began his career at SunTrust in 1998 as a Bank Analyst focused on asset/liability management and liquidity strategies.

Sreeni holds a B.B.A. degree in Economics from Georgia College and State University and an M.B.A. in Finance from Georgia State University.

Tracy Jackson

Chief Financial Officer

Tracy serves as Chief Financial Officer for all divisions of Angel Oak Companies and is responsible, along with his team, for all finance and accounting activities. 

Tracy is a finance executive with experience in capital markets, accounting, loan servicing, budgeting and forecasting, auditing, and warehouse finance. Prior to Angel Oak, Tracy served as Chief Financial Officer for several large mortgage originators and servicers including Market Street Mortgage in Clearwater, Florida and Principal Residential Mortgage in Des Moines, Iowa.

During his 30 years as a Chief Financial Officer in the financial services industry, Tracy has helped to finance and grow both retail and wholesale mortgage origination companies.  He has had direct management responsibility over large servicing portfolios and multiple origination channels.

Tracy holds a Master of Accounting degree from the University of Toledo and a B.A. degree from Malone University.

Al Stanley

Chief Information Officer and Chief Technology Officer

Al is Chief Information Officer and Chief Technology Officer for Angel Oak Companies. He is responsible for the technology direction and investments across all Angel Oak Companies inclusive of IT infrastructure and operations, information security, corporate systems, software and applications, enterprise architecture, and technology governance. Al has over 20 years of global IT experience in business technology, infrastructure, and software engineering.

Al holds a B.S. degree in Management Information Systems from California State University, Sacramento.

Steven Winokur

Chief Marketing Officer

Steven is the Chief Marketing Officer for Angel Oak Companies and oversees all marketing and branding initiatives for the firm and its affiliated companies.

Steven has over 24 years of experience in marketing and branding in both corporate and agency environments. Prior to Angel Oak, Steven was Vice President of Marketing for Buyers Protection Group, a national home warranty/home inspection firm. Prior to that, he was the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Brand Equity for United Guaranty. For over 10 years prior to that, Steven was a partner in two different brand and marketing communications agencies.

Steven holds an MBA from Emory University and a B.S. degree from the University of Miami. 

Dory Black

General Counsel

Dory is the General Counsel for Angel Oak Companies and is responsible for all legal and compliance affairs at the firm.

Previously, Dory spent over ten years at GE Asset Management as the Vice President and Associate General Counsel. She began her career working at Dewey Ballantine LLP, where she represented private equity investors and pension funds making equity investments in various operating companies. Dory has extensive experience in a variety of areas relating to the investment management business including drafting and negotiating investment management agreements, forming U.S. and offshore investment funds, and advising on regulatory issues in the U.S. and in foreign jurisdictions.

Dory holds a B.A. degree in English Literature from Brandeis University and earned a J.D., with Honors, from Emory University’s School of Law graduating cum laude with High Honors.

David Silvera

Director of Corporate Development

David is Director of Corporate Development at Angel Oak Capital and his primary responsibilities include helping develop and implement the firm’s strategic growth plan.

David brings over 20 years of experience as a principal and advisor to growing asset management firms. In 2000, he co-founded Rosemont Investment Partners, a leading private equity firm focused on providing capital and strategic value to asset management businesses. He developed innovative investment structures designed to align the interests of all parties. David served as an active partner and board member to dozens of asset managers, providing guidance to promote business growth, corporate best practices and strategic direction.

He has led more than 40 transactions in the asset management industry and has a long history of creating successful, collaborative relationships among affiliates. Prior to the formation of Rosemont, David worked as an investment banker at Smith Barney and Legg Mason.

David holds an A.B. degree in English from Columbia University and an M.B.A. in Finance and Entrepreneurial Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania

Matt Henson

Chief Human Resources Officer

Matt is responsible for leading the Human Resources Department for all divisions of Angel Oak Companies.  He has direct oversight of the strategic processes and day?to?day operations of the human resources department, including both corporate functions and deployed support.

Matt has over 20 years of progressive expertise in human resources strategy and related disciplines.  Prior to Angel Oak, Matt served 11 years at SunTrust Bank, Inc. in numerous roles of increasing responsibility within the Human Resources Department.

Matt holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Tennessee Technological University.

John Hsu

Head of Capital Markets

John is the Head of Capital Markets at Angel Oak Capital and is responsible for originating and managing all financing arrangements for new products, as well as for the firm’s investment advisory accounts. He leads Angel Oak’s securitization efforts in both the non-QM mortgage and the bank holding company sub-debt sectors via Angel Oak Capital’s AOMT and FINS shelf programs, respectively.

Prior to joining Angel Oak, John was a Senior Vice President in Ocwen Financial Corporation’s Alternative Investment Group, where he developed partnerships that invested in NPLs, MSRs and Servicer Advances. He was also at SunTrust, MBIA and J.P. Morgan, where he focused on the formation and marketing of structured credit products. John has over 25 years of capital markets and structuring experience.

John holds B.S. and B.A. degrees in Industrial Engineering and Economics from Rutgers University and an M.B.A. from Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management.

Lauren Hedvat

Capital Markets Director

Lauren is a Director on the capital markets team within asset management at Angel Oak Capital.

Prior to Angel Oak, Lauren spent eight years in structured finance, primarily focused on residential mortgages including financing, securitization of prime jumbo, servicer advance, single-family rental collateral, and re-securitizations. She most recently served as a Vice President on the residential mortgage finance team at Goldman Sachs and previously worked at Barclays/Lehman Brothers and Deutsche Bank.

Lauren holds a M.S. degree in Engineering, a B.S. degree in Engineering, and a B.A. degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.  

John Kohler

Managing Director

John is a Managing Director for Mortgage Strategies at Angel Oak Companies.

John has over 28 years of experience in structured finance and capital markets as a banker, specialty finance/mortgage REIT executive and attorney.  Prior to Angel Oak, John was a Managing Director and co-head of mortgage- and asset-backed finance at Cantor Fitzgerald & Co. and an EVP and structured finance banker at Countrywide Securities Corporation.  John also served as an EVP and head of capital markets at ECC Capital Corporation, where he was responsible for managing the REIT’s mortgage portfolio and securitization and secondary marketing functions.

John holds a J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law and a B.S. degree in Economics and Political Science from Kansas State University.

Daniel Huang

Managing Director

Dan is a Managing Director for Mortgage Strategies at Angel Oak Companies.

Dan has over 23 years of experience across the capital markets, structuring, and whole loan sectors.  Prior to Angel Oak, Dan worked on the broker-dealer side with a heavy emphasis on non-agency RMBS and CRA whole loan strategies. Prior to that, Dan worked at Countrywide Securities where he headed the efforts in the issuance of over $90 billion of subprime, Alt-A, HELOC, and 2nd Lien papers. Dan began his career in 1994 with Ocwen Financial Corporation.

Dan holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.

Brad Friedlander

Managing Partner
Head Portfolio Manager

Brad is a Managing Partner, co-founder and Head Portfolio Manager of Angel Oak Capital’s Multi-Strategy Income Fund and Flexible Income Fund. Since 1999, Brad has been involved in the capital markets and asset management across the fixed income product spectrum.

Prior to Angel Oak, Brad spent five years as a portfolio manager with Washington Mutual Bank in Seattle where he managed over $8 billion in residential mortgage-backed securities, asset-backed securities, and U.S. Government and Agency portfolios. His previous experience includes four years on the trading desks at J.P. Morgan in New York. Fund Industry Intelligence named Brad one of the 2013 Rising Stars of Mutual Funds. He was featured in Barron’s and has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and Reuters. Brad has also appeared numerous times as a television guest on CNBC and Fox Business. He has also been a visiting Lecturer at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.

Brad holds a B.S. degree in Economics from the University of Rochester.

Lu Chang

CFA®, FRM, CAIA
Chief Risk Officer

Lu is the Chief Risk Officer at Angel Oak Capital where she oversees all risk management efforts for the firm. She chairs the firm’s Risk Management Committee and Valuation Committee, as well as serves as the secretary of the Investment Committee and the secretary of the Angel Oak Funds Trust.

Lu has over 10 years of experience with both buy-side and sell-side firms. Prior to joining Angel Oak, she was a Finance Manager at Wells Fargo focusing on corporate-wide liquidity risk. Previously, she served as a Senior Research Analyst at Evergreen Investments, covering fund of hedge funds, managed futures, real estate, and commodity funds for a $5 billion alternative investment portfolio. Before Evergreen, Lu was a Vice President at Wachovia Securities, where she published white papers to provide Financial Advisors with investment recommendations on alternative investments. At Wachovia, she also worked as a Senior Credit Risk officer supporting the fixed income trading desk.

Lu holds a B.A. degree in Finance from Wuhan University, an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Oklahoma, and an M.B.A from the College of William and Mary, where she graduated with distinction, beta gamma sigma. She holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®), the Financial Risk Manager (FRM), and the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation.

Adam Langley

Chief Compliance Officer

Adam is the Chief Compliance Officer at Angel Oak Capital and is responsible for overseeing the firm’s compliance program and regulatory matters. 

Adam has over 10 years of experience in regulatory compliance of registered investment advisors, broker/dealers, mutual funds, money market funds, private placements, hedge funds and commodity pools. Most recently, Adam was with Invesco where he supervised a team of compliance officers responsible for trade monitoring and forensic testing of the firm’s mutual funds, exchange-traded funds and separately managed accounts. He began his career with Aspen Partners, Ltd. where he was responsible for all regulatory and compliance matters and led the formation of the firm’s broker/dealer and the launch of several fund offerings, including a registered mutual fund.

Adam holds a B.B.A. degree in Management from the University of West Georgia and holds the Certified Regulatory and Compliance Professional (CRCP) designation granted by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). 

Sam Dunlap

Senior Portfolio Manager

Sam is a Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager at Angel Oak Capital. He serves as a Portfolio Manager for the Angel Oak Multi-Strategy Income Fund and is also responsible for managing the separately managed accounts for Angel Oak clients, primarily depository institutions. Sam also focuses on building and managing strategies within the residential mortgage-backed securities market as well as managing the interest rate risk exposure across the Angel Oak Funds and managed accounts.

Sam began his capital markets career in 2002 and has investment experience across multiple sectors of the fixed income market. Prior to joining Angel Oak in 2009, he spent six years marketing and structuring interest rate derivatives with SunTrust Robinson Humphrey where he focused on both interest rate hedging products and interest rate linked structured notes. His previous experience included two years at Wachovia in Charlotte, NC supporting the agency mortgage pass-through trading desk.

Sam holds a B.A. degree in Economics from the University of Georgia.

Berkin Kologlu

Senior Portfolio Manager

Berkin is a Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager at Angel Oak Capital. He serves as a Portfolio Manager for two of the firm’s mutual funds, the Multi-Strategy Income Fund and the High Yield Opportunities Fund, as well as one of the firm’s private funds. He has over 15 years of experience in fixed income products and focuses on building and managing strategies within the collateralized loan obligation (CLO) market.

Prior to Angel Oak, Berkin spent six years as an executive director at UBS, covering structured products and client solutions. Prior to UBS, Berkin worked at Bank of America where he focused on the structuring and marketing of CLOs and synthetic collateralized debt obligations backed by corporate credit. Before Bank of America, Berkin worked in Turkey as a commercial banker, where he was responsible for lending to large cap corporations.

Berkin holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey and an M.B.A. from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Kin Lee

Senior Portfolio Manager

Kin is a Senior Portfolio Manager at Angel Oak Capital and focuses on building and managing strategies within the commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) market.

Kin began his career in 1993 and most recently served as Executive Director at Nomura Securities International. Previously, he was Head of CMBS Trading for both Mizuho Securities and RBS Greenwich Capital. Kin also worked in CMBS trading with Credit Suisse and Donaldson, Lufkin, & Jenrette.

Kin holds a B.S. degree in Industrial Management and Economics from Carnegie Mellon University.

Manish Valecha, CFA

Co-Head of Institutional Alternatives

Manish is Co-Head of Institutional Alternatives at Angel Oak Capital and is leading its efforts in the institutional investor marketplace with pensions, consultants, endowments, foundations and family offices. He primarily focuses on marketing, product development and institutional due diligence.

Prior to joining Angel Oak, Manish was the Head of Research at Gapstow Capital Partners, a $1 billion credit-focused investment manager investing in hedge funds, private equity funds, collateralized loan obligations and community banks. He was responsible for managing investment strategy, research and due diligence. Prior to joining Gapstow, Manish was a Vice President at BlackRock, where he was responsible for manager research across hedge funds, fund of hedge funds and traditional long-only products. Previously, he worked at Barclays Global Investors, Ziff Brothers Investments and Merrill Lynch Investment Managers.

Manish holds a B.S. degree in Finance from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation.

Eric Anderson

Head of Distribution

Eric is a Managing Director and Head of Distribution for Angel Oak Capital.

Prior to joining Angel Oak in 2013, Eric spent over five years in senior management positions at Trust Company of the West (TCW). He has more than 20 years of industry experience with leading investment firms including Nuveen Investments, Prudential and Merrill Lynch.

Eric holds a B.B.A. degree in Finance from the University of Georgia. He also holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®) designation from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Steven Schwalb

Managing Partner
Angel Oak Home Loans

Steven is the Managing Partner of Angel Oak’s lending entities (AOHL, AOMS, AOPB). His responsibilities include the development of Angel Oak’s lending and servicing strategic plan, oversight of the origination and servicing platforms, and executing growth opportunities in agency approvals, servicing and securitization. 

Steven co-founded Angel Oak Mortgage Solutions, a non-agency wholesale and correspondent mortgage lender, Angel Oak Home Loans, a residential agency and non-agency retail lender, and Angel Oak Prime Bridge, a commercial lender providing financing solutions for both residential real estate investors and commercial properties. Under his leadership, Angel Oak Lending has broadened its product mix and now originates over $2.5 billion of loans annually.

Steven has more than 25 years of experience in residential lending.  Prior to joining Angel Oak, he was the Senior Vice President of Capital Markets at SouthStar Funding, a national wholesale mortgage lender specializing in non-agency mortgage products. His primary responsibilities included product development, risk management, operations and investor relations.

Steven holds both a B.S. degree in Finance and an M.B.A. from Louisiana State University.

Ashlei McAleer

Managing Director
Director of Lending Services
Angel Oak Home Loans

Ashlei currently leads the Lending Services division under Angel Oak Home Loans. This division was created over two years ago to facilitate back-end operations fulfillment for Angel Oak Home Loans, Angel Oak Mortgage Solutions and Angel Oak Prime Bridge entities.

Ashlei is responsible for overseeing pre-funding quality control, loan performance review, servicing, and securitization efforts for the lending platforms. This team has been critical in establishing and executing a whole loan trading and securitization platform for the Angel Oak entities.

Prior to serving in this capacity, Ashlei was the SVP, Operations for Angel Oak Home Loans. Ashlei has over 15 years of extensive experience in establishing full service operational platforms to support multiple lending channels, specializing in retail, wholesale and direct to consumer platforms. This includes the development and implementation of operational infrastructure to support quality control and compliance initiatives.

Ashlei holds a B.S. degree in Management from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia.

Richard LaNasa

President
Angel Oak Home Loans

Richard is the Divisional Manager for Angel Oak Home Loans and has more than 20 years of experience in residential lending. He has a proven background in operations, business development, staff training, and project management. Richard is a decisive leader with proven success in streamlining operations, reducing costs, and boosting profits.

Richard’s leadership at Angel Oak Home Loans is dedicated towards process improvements, federal compliance, managing and developing talent, as well as maximizing efficiency. Prior to Angel Oak, Richard founded NOLA Lending Group, a mortgage lending platform serving the Southeastern United States.  NOLA funded in excess of $1 Billion of mortgages annually with an emphasis on “on time” closings, customer satisfaction, and employee excellence.

Richard holds a B.S. degree in Business with a Minor in Marketing from Louisiana State University. 

Tom Hutchens

Executive Vice President, Production
Angel Oak Mortgage Solutions

Tom is Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Angel Oak Mortgage Solutions. He has over 17 years of experience in leading sales for a wholesale lending platform with proven success in the expansion of a lending footprint nationwide.

Prior to Angel Oak, Tom was a senior sales leader at SouthStar Funding and was responsible for business and sales development across the country. He later served as the President of Novo AMC where he was instrumental in launching the organization.

Tom holds a B.S. degree in Finance from Florida State University.  

Mark Lively

SVP Credit Risk & Operations
Angel Oak Mortgage Solutions

Mark is the SVP, Operations and Credit Risk for Angel Oak Mortgage Solutions and has over 27 years of experience in residential lending. He has a proven background in development and implementation of underwriting, quality control policies and procedures in non-agency production directly contributing to cutting edge quality control and fraud prevention measures.

Mark was instrumental in the development and growth of SouthStar Funding from inception to the point where it generated over $700 million in closed loan volume per month through multiple operations centers across the United States. He later served as the SVP of Credit Risk and President of Amerisave Mortgage Corporation.

Michael Smeltzer

Chief Credit Officer
Angel Oak Home Loans

Michael is the Chief Credit Risk Officer of Angel Oak Home Loans (AOHL).  He has more than 25 years of experience in the mortgage industry with over 19 years in management.  His current responsibilities at AOHL include underwriting management, guideline approval, credit risk assessment, and product development. 

Along with his career in management, Michael is also a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association liaison committee which communicates with all lending agencies.  This committee meets regularly with top officials at Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, and VA to discuss the current state of the industry.  Michael has underwriting designations/certifications with conventional, jumbo, FHA, VA, and USDA and has played a large part in the product development of AOHL’s portfolio products.

Robert Mulcahy

VP, Specialty Lending
Angel Oak Prime Bridge

Robert is the Vice President of Specialty Lending and currently oversees and manages investment property lending operations for Angel Oak Prime Bridge. His responsibilities include creating specialty landlord financing and renovation lending products for non-owner occupied homes, credit risk, building an origination platform to develop sales and marketing of specialized lending programs within the distressed single and residential multi-family assets, and resource management.

Robert has over 25 years of experience in finance, startup businesses and the real estate investment industry. Prior to Angel Oak, Robert began his career in New York with Tullett & Tokyo, a financial futures brokerage firm working in the mortgage backed securities and bond futures department.

Ben Easterlin, V

Managing Director, Commercial Lending

Ben is the Managing Director, Commercial Lending at Angel Oak Capital where his efforts are primarily dedicated to developing and implementing a strategic business plan to provide a wide range of debt products to all commercial real estate asset classes.

Prior to joining Angel Oak, Ben was the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of a private holding company which made investments in companies that own and sell real estate assets. Ben has also held the position of senior executive and co­founder of a real estate private equity firm and a renewable energy company.

Ben holds a B.B.A degree in Real Estate from the Terry College of Business at The University of Georgia.
